Bookish Musings, Banter & More
Zondervan (May 1, 2008)
Another book outside my normal reading habits that I am ecstatic to have picked up. Davis had my eyes riveted on this story from just a few pages in. Once I got enough background of the characters to be attached it was all over for me until the last page and now I want to snatch up a copy of Eternity’s Edge ASAP to find out more. Alternate dimensions, a mirror that opens the gateway between them, musically gifted characters and others with amazing intellectual capabilities combine in this tale of action and adventure starring two young teens and their friends, family and enemies in multiple dimensions.
Unfortunately the mirror allowing contact between the dimensions creates a bit of a mess and sends all the dimensions into ever increasing chaos. Can these young people figure out who can be trusted in which dimension, get everyone back to their proper places, figure out this looming disaster that everyone keeps talking about (Interfinity), seal the leaks and save all these worlds the mirror connects before someone else puts an end to them in all the dimensions? Read the kick off to Davis’ newest YA series to find out. This is a thriller, fantasy, scifi extravaganza that any reader will relish despite the tag of YA. This is not your typical shallow fluff or fanfic style action story it is rather a deep, intricately woven narrative with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat all the way to the end and then some. There are still some quirks in this plot that I haven’t managed to get my mind around weeks after finishing the book. It is well worth the time to read and once you open it be prepared to settle in for the duration. (ISBN#9780310715542, 400pp, $12.99)
